OUR PROUD PARTNERS

Innovating

Sustainable Living

Rizq, in collaboration with The Heritage Foundation (THF), presents a groundbreaking initiative at the Lahore Biennale Foundation (LBF) Global Art Event, titled the Zero-Carbon Eco-Centre. This unique installation showcases an Eco-Housing Model designed by Yasmeen Lari, aiming to raise awareness about climate resilience and sustainable development in Pakistan. The exhibit exemplifies the environmentally friendly and cost-effective housing structures being developed by THF and Rizq within communities most vulnerable to climate change.

About Rizq’s

Eco-Housing Project

The Eco-Housing model you’re seeing in front of you, called the Octa GreenHouse, is part of Rizq’s larger initiative to combat homelessness caused by climate disasters. Similar structures have already been built in Mirpurkhas, Sindh, where 50 flood-affected rural households now live in zero-carbon communities.

OUR WORK

Inspired by Pakistan’s first female architect, Yasmeen Lari, we began this project after the devastating 2022 floods, which left millions homeless. We aimed to provide long-term rehabilitation by building sustainable, eco-friendly housing for these communities. This installation is an opportunity to explore the structure and learn more about its unique features, such as:

Eco-friendly stoves

Energy-efficient stoves designed to minimise fuel consumption and reduce environmental impact.

Sustainable building materials

Locally sourced and recycled materials to promote environmental stewardship.

Climate
resilience

Built to withstand extreme weather, these structures ensure safety and comfort for inhabitants.

Impact on the Community

The Rizq Eco-Housing Project has already made a significant impact in disaster-stricken, impoverished communities. By promoting eco-friendly construction methods, we empower local communities to take ownership of their environment and build a resilient future.

Training & Capacity Building:

  • 200+ villagers trained (including women and youth)
  • “Green Skills” training (eco-building, kitchen gardening, community forestry)
  • Workshops on Disaster Preparedness & Flood Mitigation
  • Microenterprise Development workshops

Project Impact Summary

150 log shelters installed

75 Eco-Toilets built

150 Earthen stoves provided

12 Solar Panel Systems installed

19 Handpumps Set up

WHAT’S NEXT?

Rizq recently won the Global Innovation Challenge: Addressing Homelessness, sponsored by Citi Foundation. This international competition recognized our Eco-Housing Project as a pilot for disaster-resilient housing in Pakistan. With this recognition, we are now aiming to expand this project to other districts.
By continuing to research and develop affordable, climate-resilient housing, Rizq aims to foster local expertise and self-reliance. We train community members in construction skills, promoting long-term sustainability and resilience. With your support, we can bring these solutions to more communities across Pakistan.
