World Central Kitchen partners with Rizq for flood relief activities in Punjab
As the Eastern rivers – Ravi, Sutlej, Chenab – began to flood, with the water levels reaching historically highest levels, Punjab faced the heaviest flood since that of 1988. The situation was further aggravated by high rainfalls and dam opening from India, leading to major cities like Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal and Hafizabad being impacted heavily, alongside thousands of villages, and over 2 million acres of agricultural land.
An estimated 3.3+ million people have been affected by the floods, with hundreds of thousands displaced as houses collapsed and infrastructure crumbled. The situation was truly catastrophic, requiring immediate action from all governmental and non-governmental organizations.
Rizq partnered with World Central Kitchen – leading global organisation providing food in the face of natural and man-made disasters – to set up live kitchens across flood affected areas. So far, four live kitchens have been set up in collaboration with WCK. In the initial phase, Narowal and Hafizabad live kitchens served nearby villages and communities, providing up to 5,000 meals daily. In the second phase, kitchens were set up in Jalalpur Peerwala and Alipur, with the capacity of serving over 2,000 fresh meals daily.
Additionally, the partnership extends to provision of ration bags to thousands of families across Punjab, as well as Ready-to-Eat food kits. Each ration kit is designed to feed a family of 4 for 22 days, carefully curated to meet all nutritional needs.
Previously, Rizq partnered with WCK after the disastrous floods of 2022, whereby meals and ready-to-eat kits were distributed across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh. Rizq is proud to be WCK’s chosen, long-term partner to bring much needed relief to victims.
