100,000 Acres
Seeding Good
With over 2 million acres of land destroyed by the floods, Pakistan is going through an agricultural crisis which will have disastrous impact on food security in Pakistan and abroad. Expanding on our Kissan Dost Program, Rizq is on a mission to rehabilitate 100,000 acres of farmland to not only mitigate the looming threat, but to empower small-holder farmers and make them climate resilient.

On-ground Situation
Magnitude of the Problem
An agricultural emergency has been declared across the country, after flooding in the eastern rivers have targeted Pakistan’s breadbasket: Punjab. Heavier than expected rainfall has made the situation worse, and we are now standing at the brink of massive food insecurity and loss of livelihoods in the coming year.

Race Against Time
Why This Deserves Your Attention
Wheat is sown in Punjab over the next 6 weeks. Across numerous
areas, the floods have left behind inches of debris, which has
left the land unsuited for any kind of cultivation.
If the situation is not taken care of in time for wheat farming,
Pakistan will see massive inflation and food shortages. Global
markets will also feel the impact.
Trapped in a Debt Cycle
Small-holder Farmer
Crisis: Explained
For smallholder farmers, the destruction of farmland is
catastrophic. The crops they grow are both their source of income
and their source of food. With no harvest to sell or consume, they
face immediate hunger.
To restart farming, many farmers are forced into borrowing from
predatory lenders at exorbitant interest rates. The agricultural
inputs provided in these arrangements are often adulterated or
substandard, resulting in weak yields that trap farmers in a cycle
of debt and poverty.
Scaling Our Impact Further
How Our Intervention Will Help?
After the floods of 2022, Rizq launched the Kissan Dost Program aimed to empower small-holder farmers and break debt cyclic by providing zero interest loans in the form of high-quality agricultural inputs. The program targets the most vulnerable - those with less than 5 acres of land.
