Partnership
Why This Partnership?
The 2025 floods in Pakistan caused an agricultural emergency,
with over 2 million acres of cultivated farmland affected or
destroyed, causing massive damages to causing massive losses
to rice, cotton, and maize crops across Punjab. The worst
impacted were the small-holder farmers - whose entire
livelihoods depend on these crops.
The small-holder farmers in Pakistan are trapped in a constant
debt cycle, one in which they are forced to borrow from
middlemen at exorbitant interest rates - as high as 40-50%.
Crop damages due to instances like floods and droughts further
push these farmers into this debt cycle.
The partnership between Pledges and Rizq aims to provide these
farmers with secure form of finances in the form of inputs,
alongside provision of field-based agronomic advisory,
monitoring and market linkages at zero-interest rates.
