Channelizing 30,000 tonnes of frozen veggies in two days. ( Fauji Fresh and Freeze)

In times when the staggering statistics of food waste in Pakistan – 19.6 million tonnes annually, worth $4 billion – paints a harsh reality, coupled with a global hunger index ranking 99th out of 126 countries, it’s clear that action is needed urgently.
In a world grappling with the paradox of abundant waste and widespread hunger, a heartwarming story of compassion and resourcefulness unfolds. This is the tale of how Rizq Trust, armed with determination and empathy, transformed 33,000 kgs of excess frozen vegetables into a lifeline for the hungry and underserved communities during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
It all began with an extraordinary act of generosity. Fauji Fresh n Freeze, recognizing the power of giving, offered 33,000 kgs of excess frozen vegetables, including fresh green beans, diced carrots, and other nutritious delights. These vegetables, perfectly good but at risk of going to waste, became a symbol of hope for the Rizq team.
On the first day, these veggies were carefully transported to the partner warehouse, Ice Pac. Here, volunteers and Rizq’s dedicated team embarked on a mission to sort through this abundance, knowing that every ounce had the potential to change lives.
The second day marked the beginning of a remarkable distribution journey. Rizq, not a traditional food bank but a channelizing NGO, played a pivotal role in ensuring this surplus reached the right hands. Collaborating with 33 distributing partners and NGOs like Saylani Welfare, Fountain House, Rukhsana Foundation, Hope Uplift Foundation, Rizq embarked on a mission to distribute those frozen vegetables to various communities.
From laborers seeking sustenance to residents of humble slums, Rizq’s commitment to inclusivity ensured that no one was left behind. This act of kindness was not merely about providing a meal but about restoring dignity and hope to those facing hunger.
Rizq Trust stands firm, showing us that one small act can have a significant impact. Their unwavering commitment to bridging the gap between excess and empathy serves as a powerful example of what’s possible when we choose compassion.
On the third day, those excess frozen vegetables underwent a heartwarming transformation. At “Ghar ka Dastarkhwan,” a place resonating with the essence of home-cooked meals, from where the ideology of Rizq came from. The surplus was transformed into delicious, hygienically-prepared dishes, brimming with flavors and nourishment.
These meals were more than just sustenance; they were symbols of hope, love, and solidarity. Distributed and fed among deserving families, they brought smiles and relief during a challenging time – the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020.
Rizq’s journey from excess to empathy invites us all to reconsider our roles in addressing the global issues of food waste and hunger. The story of these surplus vegetables is a call to action, urging us to channel our abundance into meaningful change. Rizq Trust continues to illuminate the path towards a brighter future. Together, we can rewrite the narrative of waste and hunger, one meal at a time.
