Celebrating with our farmers during the holy month of Ramadan, as we work to break barriers and empower our communities for a better future
In the heart of South Punjab, Pakistan, the GroRizq team wished to share the joy of their beneficiary farmers’ bountiful harvest with a celebration. Three heartwarming iftar dastarkhawans, organized during the holy month of Ramadan, offered a beacon of hope for hundreds of impoverished smallholder farmers still grappling with the aftermath of 2022’s devastating floods. These iftars served as more than just gatherings for our farmers to break their fast; they became a momentary emblem of solidarity and communal happiness, uniting people from different backgrounds in a shared spirit of generosity.
Ramadan, a sacred month for Muslims worldwide, emphasizes reflection, self-discipline, and acts of kindness. South Punjab’s smallholder farmers are often overlooked and faced with immense socioeconomic challenges. They are unable to afford the fruit and dates that line our iftar tables every Ramadan evening. Yet, despite the scarcities they face, these farmers toil tirelessly, amidst constant hardship, to create the abundance that feeds the rest of the country.
Through this iftar dastarkhwan, the GroRizq team wished to celebrate Ramadan in appreciation of those who work day and night to cultivate croplands and provide for others. Under festive lights, against a backdrop of the freshly-harvested fields that feed our nation, a narrative of shared humanity and mutual support unfolded at these dastarkhwan tables. Truly, the true spirit of Ramadan lies in uplifting those who are most in need of positivity and compassion.
